“The plant that has been installed in the Philippine Heart Center can generate 30,000 kilowatt hours (kwh) per month, miniscule in terms of our total electrical consumption of 900,000 kwh but nonetheless is a small step in the right direction,” said Dr. Manuel Chua Chiaco Jr., PHC executive director.
A 100-kilowatt solar panel system was launched by PNOC-Renewables Corp. (PNOC-RC) at the rooftop of Philippine Heart Center (PHC) in Quezon City. This is the first hospital among 200 others targeted by the state-owned renewable company.
A total of P252,600 can be saved monthly in the hospital's electricity bill at a rate of P8.42 per kwh as per Meralco. The P8-million project can provide roughly 3 percent of the hospital’s total monthly electricity consumption.
This will also enable PHC avoid the emission of 105 tons of carbon dioxide and the planting of 2,800 trees to offset that emission.
PHC is the first hospital to be powered by PNOC-RC’s solar power projects which also include government offices and institutions.
